Despite funding being cut, Wynnum Community Place (WCP) at 55 Berrima Street continues to support Wynnum’s most vulnerable. The decision to remain in the region is a testament to the community-focused Redland Community Centre Board and its philosophy of providing a long-standing presence in the Wynnum community because it’s the right thing to do.

Times are really tough for many people in Wynnum, and WCP is looking for ways of making programs reach as many people as possible.

The WCP Community Meal program, led by Wynnum local Rhonda, continues to grow to cater to the ever-increasing need. The program has seen nearly 90 hot and home-cooked meals served up each Tuesday.

We know assisting people with one night of good, hot food is great, but what if we had the ability to help the Wynnum people with greater amounts of fresh food during the week? WCP has the support of local member Joan Pease MP and Councillor Peter Cumming to apply for a Gambling Community Benefit grant (GCBF) to purchase a minivan that will enable fresh food to be collected and distributed to the people of Wynnum via our partnership with Foodbank and other local businesses.

Homeless United, a dedicated homeless program, operates from WCP every Tuesday and Thursday and has housed around 15 people in the last five months. These outstanding results are testament to the ongoing partnerships of the program and being able to house the homeless in the tightest rental market for some 20 years. The van will also be used to help our homeless get back on their feet with the collection and delivery of donated household goods, furniture and white goods – together, we can do more!

Please tell your friends, family and colleagues of the work we do at the ‘Place’ – we love the people of Wynnum, and kindness matters most when times are tough so let’s pull together.
