Introducing “Hedgehog the Wonder Dog”, the heart-warming new children’s book written by Manly local Dannika Patterson and illustrated by Ross Morgan. This book is a celebration of the bond between humans and animals, particularly the incredible healing powers of therapy dogs.
The story follows a special dog named Hedgehog, who possesses extraordinary abilities that only certain children like Sam can see. While others may see her as just an ordinary dog, Sam knows she has true superpowers that can help heal and comfort those in need.
Through the perspective of a child, this book takes us on a journey into the world of a children’s hospital, exploring the concept of childhood illness and treatment in a gentle and age-appropriate way. The contrast between a child’s inner and outer worlds is artfully portrayed through symbolism, making this a poignant and insightful read for children and adults alike.
The illustrations by Ross Morgan are truly captivating, featuring a combination of hand-drawn sketches, paintings, and digital elements. The multi-layered illustrations are filled with hidden details and invite exploration, adding another layer of depth to the story.
This book is a comfort to children going through hospital treatment and a valuable resource for parents, friends, carers, teachers, counsellors, and medical staff. It promotes the benefits of therapy animals and can serve as a conversation starter around assumptions and the power of emotional support.
“Hedgehog the Wonder Dog” is a book full of heart, hope, and furry, four-legged love. It’s sure to delight and inspire children and adults alike with its beautiful story and stunning illustrations.
