Suburb: I live in Thornlands, grew up in Birkdale, and have previously lived in Alexandra Hills.
What’s your business? I have been with beverage company Frucor Suntory for the last 23 years. I am also currently president of Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club.
Do you have any interesting stories about your job? Too many to tell! One story that probably stands out in my lifesaving life was recently being part of a rescue and resuscitation of a seven-year-old female on Minjerribah back in February this year. I was really proud of how all the members who were involved in the rescue (including my 18-year-old son) on their professionalism and commitment to saving the young girl’s life.
What’s your favourite local dine-in and take-away? For dine in, Jaipur Palace at Wellington point – a great Indian feed. For take-away, La Madrina Pizza at Victoria Point – excellent pizzas. Or of course in my own kitchen.
What’s your favourite local activity? A day at the beach on Minjerribah or in Moreton Bay with a fishing rod in my hand. Being a chef I love nothing more than catching fresh seafood and turning it into a beautiful meal.
The last book you read? A Good Life All the Way – Jimmy Buffett. Jimmy Buffett was an American singer with his main hit being Margaritaville. He recently passed away so I decided I would pick up his book and have a read. Great man.
The last tv show or movie you watched? Top Gun Maverick (again!).
Is there anything you’d like to see happen in the local area? I’d like to see better awareness and support for our local emergency service providers from the various government agencies. Not only the surf lifesaving clubs of the Redlands, but also our lifeguards, SES and volunteer coast guard, the majority of whom are all volunteers and dedicate countless hours to keeping the community safe.
Is there a local business/community group/club you’d like to give a shout-out to? To all the members of Point Lookout Surf Lifesaving Club who give up their time to protect the bathing public and save lives on Minjerribah (North Stradbroke Island).
