Since its establishment, Wynnum Golf Club has played host to hundreds of bayside residents’ special occasions from weddings to birthdays, and everything in between. Now it’s the club’s turn to celebrate its 100th birthday this year.
President Peter Stone said the club has a proud history that began in 1922 following a meeting at the Wynnum Town Hall, leading to the creation of a nine-hole golf course on open land near Wynnum North railway station.
“After starting from humble beginnings, today the 18-hole parkland golf course provides a challenge for all players of all levels of ability,” Peter said.
“The club has a long history of being supported by local organisations, including Bartons and BMD who have helped raise in excess of $3.5 million through hosting the annual Bartons/BMD Pro-Am,” he said.
BMD founder and Chairman, and Wynnum Golf Club Patron, Mick Power AM said he was proud to continue to support the Wynnum Golf Club through Australia’s richest one day pro-am.
“The Bartons/BMD Pro-Am has been hosted locally at Wynnum Golf Club since its inception in 1979,” Mick said.
“We are excited to be able to again host the pro-am at the club, an event which is made even more special given that we’re celebrating Wynnum Golf Club’s centenary.”
As part of the centenary celebrations, Wynnum Golf Club is raffling a LVTong Golf Cart valued at $13,000 generously donated by Bartons and BMD. Raffle tickets are $20 with proceeds going directly back into the club. Visit the Wynnum Golf Club Facebook page for more information.
