WYNNUM/MANLY BOOMERANG BAGS GIVE BACK TO LOCALS - The Community Leader and Real Estate New and Views

BY KATHY MOTTLEY

Wynnum/Manly Boomerang Group members have been working hard during the last 18 months making shopping and produce bags from donated and repurposed fabrics. All our members are volunteers and this activity has certainly helped them through these trying times that everyone is experiencing.

Due to the sales of these bags through local outlets and some other orders, we found we had surplus funds. We decided to give back to the community by offering grants of $500 to deserving community groups. Groups were invited to submit applications and our grants team decided on three groups to receive these grants.

Wynnum/Manly Boomerang Bags is proud to announce the recipients of grants to local community groups. We are grateful for the support of the local community who have purchased the shopping bags and produce bags that we sew from donated fabrics.

GRANT RECIPIENTS
Bayside BMX Club. Grant money will be used to complete landscaping around the newly completed clubhouse through the purchase of river rocks and plants. The aim is to complete a rocky waterway within the gardens to encourage water runoff, decrease erosion and protect the tree roots and foliage from bikes and people walking through the area.

Tingalpa State School. The grant will be used to set up a compost and worm farm system to decrease the amount of green waste that goes into general rubbish bins at the school. The compost and worm wee will feed a new edible vegetable garden to be looked after by students in the gardening club during lunchtimes.

Bayside Creeks Catchment Group. Their grant money will go towards the administration and marketing costs of the group. This group works to maintain and restore the ecological integrity and bio-diversity of the local creeks and catchment areas. They hold regular clean-ups of the area among other events.
