FROM BABI YOUTH & FAMILY SERVICE

BABI Youth & Family Service hosts a Young Parents’ Group every Thursday morning at Wynnum from 10am to 11:30am. This program was created due to a growing need from young parents in our community who have been feeling isolated and alone.

This group aims to provide a safe, supportive and welcoming space for parents under the age of 25.

“Young parents have many barriers to accessing support, including the social stigma around young parenthood,” explained BABI’s Catriona Kucks.

“Being welcomed into a space, with no judgement, allows parents to respond positively to our youth workers and reduces the anxiety of making new connections. Young people can meet other parents from the community and be able to share experiences and challenges with like-minded people.”

Parents attending the group have the opportunity to talk to experienced, educated and compassionate workers who can assist with referrals to other services if required. The group is there for what each individual requires – whether it’s to make new friends, to get advice from peers, or to receive information about other services that may assist them in different areas.

Parents can come along to allow their children to interact with other children while they have a tea or coffee and snacks with other parents.
