FROM JOAN PEASE, STATE MEMBER FOR LYTTON

I hope everyone has fared well following the rainfall in February and March. I would like to make you aware of the range of grants and assistance available to flood-affected businesses and individuals. I was truly heart warmed to meet with residents, businesses and sporting clubs that have helped each other in the recovery process.

Individuals

Brisbane City Council residents will receive waste levy exemptions to help with the cleanup. All flood-related waste including damaged goods can be disposed of at the a number of landfill locations without incurring a levy. Check out the BCC website for details https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/clean-and-green/rubbish-tips-and-bins/waste-and-recycling-facilities/resource-recovery-centres.

If your birth certificate or marriage certificate was destroyed, the Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages is offering free replacements. Call 13 74 68 or email [email protected] or more information.

Businesses & Community Clubs

The Business Queensland website (https://www.business.qld.gov.au/) and Small Business Disaster Hub (https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/protecting-business/disaster-resilience/disaster-hub) provides information and resources on how to respond and recover during natural disasters.

The Extraordinary Disaster Assistance Recovery Grants provides information about grants for small businesses and not for profit clubs may also be eligible. Applications are due by 5 September 2022 and can be made through the Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority (QRIDA) (https://www.qrida.qld.gov.au/).

I also encourage small business owners to use the services of Queensland Small Business Commissioner, an organisation that empowers small business through collaborative advocacy (https://www.business.qld.gov.au/running-business/support-assistance/qsbc).

The State Government Sport and Recreation Disaster Recovery Program is providing initial grants of up to $5000 to help eligible clubs with cleaning; clubs may also apply for the grant to reimburse invoices already paid. Level 1 funding will be available for three months following the event. For more information, including how to apply, please visit https://www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/disaster-recovery.
