Making Waves Foundation is a non-profit organisation that provides people with disability, or experiencing social challenges, opportunities to use sailing to further personal growth and potential.

The Making Waves headquarters in Sydney was established 28 years ago when a crew of sailors with disabilities competed in the 1994 Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race.  The first Winds of Joy program was run a year later.  Five different programs are now run to facilitate personal development and inclusion of people who may not usually be able to access sailing or the maritime industry.

Bases are established in Melbourne, Newcastle and Geelong with the newest base at the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron scheduled to open mid-2023.

Come and join us for what will surely be an extraordinary night of fun, dancing, dining and good old-fashioned camaraderie in the spirit of supporting youth members of our community who are disadvantaged or disabled.

All the funds raised will enable Making Waves Foundation to enrol kids in their programs, and most importantly, give them the joy of sailing and being out on the water – something that many of us simply take for granted. The event is being held on Friday 5th May 2023, and will include a stunning three-course dinner, dancing and entertainment, a raffle as well as silent and live auctions. The theme of the event is “Paint the Night Red” in keeping with the Making Waves red logo, so the dress code will be obvious – just wear anything red!

Our goal on the night is to raise at least $30,000 and with the arrival of their new yacht early in 2023, Making Waves will be up and running very, very soon. Ticket prices are $85pp for RQYS members and $95pp for non-members, or you can purchase a table of 10 for the price of nine. Tickets can be purchased online at Trybooking by searching Making Waves Fundraising Dinner.

To help achieve these goals, Making Waves in Queensland has already established great relationships with the Bartons Motor Group, YachtShare and other local clubs and schools. So please get a group together and help us kick-off this fantastic initiative with a bang…and a splash of red!
