In honour of International Women’s Day (March 8), we shine a spotlight on the savvy women putting Manly on the map.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Dating back to 1911, it marks a call to action for accelerating gender parity, celebrating women’s achievements, and raising awareness about women’s equality.

While the world has witnessed significant changes and attitudinal shifts in gender equality, women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, are not present in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. However, some great progress has been made. (Source: internationalwomensday.com)

This IWD we celebrate the many incredible women working hard within the community and local businesses to #BreakTheBias and lead by example to accelerate gender parity. Take a walk down Cambridge Parade at Manly Harbour Village and discover the plethora of female owned and run businesses that are the lifeblood of our Village. The Mad Hatters Bookshop, Manly Village Pharmacy, Apothecary Botanica, Ebb + Flow Boutique Studio, Flowers on Cambridge, Shucks Bar, Tide on the Jetty, The Arsonist and Manly Harbour Barber are just some of the many examples of female-owned and run businesses in the area. Drop in this month and say hello to the friendly faces keeping Manly Harbour Village alive and thriving as a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

You can also show your support for IWD online by striking the IWD 2022 pose (with arms crossed in an X) and sharing your #BreakTheBias image, video, resources, presentation or articles on social media using #IWD2022 #BreakTheBias to encourage further people to commit to helping forge an inclusive world.
