Brian and Kazza, of the YouTube channel Sailing SV Delos, have spent the past 15 years navigating the globe, sailing approximately 85,000 nautical miles across six continents and 50 countries. Now, this adventurous young family is embarking on a new chapter: the creation of Delos 2.0.
Their quest for the perfect vessel led them to Dan Schofield, a metal fabricator and owner of Stradbroke Yachts at Redland City Marina. The vision for Delos 2.0 took shape when Brian and Kazza saw Dan’s first catamaran, designed by renowned New Zealand naval architect David de Villiers.
Witnessing the dynamic collaboration between New Zealand ingenuity and Australian craftsmanship, the couple knew they had found what they had been looking for.
The upgrade from a sailing monohull to a catamaran marked a significant transition for Brian and Kazza. Eager to be involved in building their new ‘home at sea’, they will document the process on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/@svdelos).
Stradbroke Yachts is located within Redland City Marina premises in Thornlands. With an aim to bring a modern edge to a classic material, Stradbroke Yachts revolutionises the world’s perception of aluminium sailing yachts, designing their vessels for both strength and speed.
Delos 2.0 will feature all-aluminium construction, a large solar array, an integrated rainwater system, and a low-maintenance exterior. With collision and watertight bulkheads, the catamaran will boast a unique hybrid propulsion system, allowing Brian and Kazza to sail using diesel, electric power, or a combination of both.
