Do you ever wonder what your health will be like when you are older? We can’t afford to take good health for granted! That’s why Wynnum 60 and Better is starting 2025 with a free My Health for Life program to help bayside seniors to live well, free of chronic diseases.
Health Coach Saalihah Seedat said the program is an important preventive, self-help measure to avoid chronic diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, and stroke.
“It is all about helping individuals adjust their daily routines to establish healthier habits for longer, fuller lives,” Ms Seedat explained. “Good health is a blessing; our most valuable asset. This program is like being offered a second chance at life!”
Ms Seedat is a consultant pharmacist, passionate about making a difference in people’s lives. She presents her coaching sessions in a relaxed, persuasive style, supported by on-screen facts and information to demonstrate practical ways of breaking old habits. Step-by-step, she helps participants develop an action plan for the goals they set themselves.
“Participants may want to be more active, eat better, improve sleep quality, manage stress or lose weight. In many cases, people choose a combination of goals to improve their lives,” she said.
Here is feedback from two bayside couples who completed the program:
David: “My wife took me to the first session, and I wasn’t keen to be there, but in the end, I was so glad I attended.”
Eva: “I learnt so much, particularly about how the body reacts in certain situations.”
Lianne: “This was a wake-up call for me. My attitude was, ‘This will never happen to me.’ The way I shop has changed, and my choice of recipes.”
Timothy: “We all have bad habits that are hard to break. I was reluctant to start the course but found it thoroughly enjoyable and beneficial (I lost 7kg through better eating habits). Saalihah was great, and she made all aspects of the course extremely interesting.”
A My Health for Life information session and talk entitled The Keys to Healthy Ageing will run on Tuesday January 28 from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at the Wynnum 60 and Better centre tearoom, Level 1, 105 Florence Street, Wynnum.
The My Health for Life program is scheduled for Tuesdays from 10:00am to 12:00pm on February 25, March 11, March 25, April 8 and May 6. Course numbers are capped at 20 people, but another Wynnum program is planned for later in the year.
