While Valentine’s Day takes the spotlight in February, a lesser-known day is being increasingly observed around the world: Galentine’s Day. It’s the chance to celebrate friendships and honour those people in our lives who are there for us, no matter what.
And while the bayside has community spirit in spades, there’s no doubt that spirit is underpinned by friendships that span generations, interests, and backgrounds. Those friendships are fostered by local clubs and organisations, often run by volunteers, who see the power in bringing people together. Friendships can be life-changing and life-saving, particularly as we age and our social bonds fray, and equally important for youngsters trying to navigate the world. Friendship is priceless.
One group in our community is taking the chance to celebrate friendship this month with a special ‘Galentine’s Day’ lunch. Wynnum 60 and Better members will gather on February 13 at Mates Restaurant in Wynnum in the name of friendship and fun. More about that on page 3.
If you’d like to make new friends, no matter what your stage in life, there’s a host of local clubs just waiting to welcome you to the fold, and we hope to showcase many of them in future editions.
