Club Manly bowls is leading a local campaign to dispel the common belief that lawn bowls is just a sport for seniors.
With the help of local primary schools and a high school in the Wynnum Manly area, we introduced lawn bowls as a sports option to the local school students.
With the help of the ladies’ and mens coaches, the schools’ students have discovered that lawn bowls is fun and that it’s a sport where players can develop their skills with the ultimate goal of enjoying the game.
The initiative allows young bowlers to participate in further training at the club under the guidance of their coach, with girls and boys able to compete against each other as equals.
The sport also allows young bowlers to play bowls with family members – young and old – and have fun as a family.
Lawn bowls is also a pathway for young bowlers to participate at state and international levels, bowl for the Jackeroos, and represent their club at upcoming home games.
