FROM WYNNUM MANLY & DISTRICT MEALS ON WHEELS

Wynnum Manly & District Meals on Wheels has come a long way since its inception in 1958. Initially operating out of church kitchens or the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre, the organisation’s operations have been relocated and upgraded to a purpose-built building at 880 Manly Road, Wakerley.

As a community service, we operate with assistance from the Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP), receiving the majority of our funding from the Federal Government. As a not-for-profit organisation, we rely on the ongoing generosity and commitment of volunteers who donate their time and energy to provide nutritious meals to clients in the short or long term. Our volunteers are the ‘hands and feet’ of the organisation; they connect us to the community. We are so grateful for their many hours to provide this service to this local community. Our volunteers will tell you that reaching out and making a difference in somebody’s day makes their day.

We deliver healthy meals to clients’ homes to ensure their nutritional requirements are met and provide regular social contact and a friendly check to see all is well. Every day, a friendly smile, a chat about the weather, a nutritious meal and knowing someone will drop by to say ‘hello’ changes the lives of many of our clients who value this contact. Catering for special dietary needs and allergies through to modifying the texture is something our team does to assist in providing meals to all our clients.

The delivery area covers Belmont, Hemmant, Lota, Manly, Manly West, Tingalpa, Wakerley, Wynnum, Wynnum North and Wynnum West.

Although much of the work we do at Wynnum Manly & District Meals on Wheels is made possible through government funding and client contributions, we rely on additional support to deliver the services that do not receive any funds or are only partly funded. All donations of $2 and over are tax deductible.
