BY DESLEY MOLNAR – OLDER WOMEN’S NETWORK, CAPALABA
Members of the Older Women’s Network (OWN) Capalaba celebrated their 7th birthday and International Women’s Day in March. A fantastic and lively group of ladies shared lots of laughs and a delicious morning tea and birthday cake.
OWN Queensland is part of a national network supporting the needs and interests of older women from all walks of life with a range of activities throughout the local branches.
The members of OWN Capalaba provide mutual support, companionship, information, social activities and contributions to the wider community. At monthly meetings invited speakers present information on topics such as health, safety and resilience. At other times members share their stories and skills. The group also meets once a month for morning tea at local cafes or for BBQs in the park.
OWN has previously contributed to the community in a variety of ways and this year Rotary Capalaba, local businesses and family members have made donations towards the group’s current project, Hope in a Suitcase. Members will fill suitcases with essential items for the organisation to distribute to children in foster care.
OWN members are proud to be themselves and encourage members to grow through laughter, friendship and social inclusion.
Whatever your interests you are invited to join OWN as a guest or member at our Capalaba or Wynnum branches.
