Two Principal House Officers from Redland Hospital, Dr Celeste Bloomfield and Dr Salih Ibn Mohamed, have been accepted into the highly competitive Queensland Anaesthetics Rotational Training Scheme (QARTS).
The pair was selected from hundreds of applicants across the state to take on the important role of keeping patients well-sedated during surgery or other medical procedures. Dr Bloomfield said being accepted into the training scheme was exciting and a culmination of years of work.
“It has been a lot of hard work for both of us,” said Dr Bloomfield. “We’ve been working towards this for the last two or three years. We’re both really excited to start next year and see what the future holds.”
SMO Anaesthetics Dr Nicholas Pawula said both doctors had been dedicated in their efforts to get onto the highly sought-after QARTS program.
“I predict they will be future leaders in this field,” Dr Pawula said. “They have been reliable and enthusiastic members of a hard-working junior doctor cohort in the anaesthetic department this year. I trust they will maintain their strong patient advocacy throughout their training and keep their community-mindedness, which I think is a key experience of working at Redland Hospital.”
Dr Ibn Mohamed said he appreciated the opportunity to work in anaesthetics.
“Anaesthetics as a specialty really appeals to me because we get to play a big role in a patient’s perioperative experience. They put a lot of trust in us, and that’s a big privilege.”
In addition to their clinical duties, both doctors are actively involved in research that will be showcased at the upcoming Bayside Health Service Research Symposium.
