Groundsmen across the Redlands region are set to receive well-deserved recognition for their hard work in creating beautiful, functional outdoor spaces for students.
A new competition, run by local landscaping yard Rock ’N’ Soil, aims to showcase the best school environments and celebrates the contributions of these often-unsung heroes in maintaining safe, inspiring grounds for learning and play.
Wayne Fletcher, principal at Coolynwynpin School, praised groundsmen for their impact, noting, “Groundsmen make our schools beautiful places to work in and ensure our students can play outdoors safely”.
The competition features several categories, including Most Beautiful School, Best New Project, Best Interactive Student Initiative, and Most Needy Oval. Prizes range from a full oval rescue package, sponsored by Rock ‘n’ Soil and Kennards Hire Cleveland, to a robotic mower courtesy of Robot Lawn Mowers Australia. These prizes are designed to help ease the workload of groundsmen and support ongoing projects. Jason Carter, the owner of Robot Lawn Mowers Australia, emphasised how robotic mowers can reduce manual labour and make groundsmen’s jobs safer and more efficient.
David Kitchen, General Manager of Rock ‘n’ Soil, highlighted the importance of well-maintained grounds, saying, “A beautiful school environment fosters pride, encourages outdoor play, and provides vital learning opportunities”.
Schools and parents are invited to nominate their favourite school grounds via the Redlands Beautiful Schools Facebook page or by texting 0483 932 167. Simply text or comment the name of the school to enter them in the competition.
