All urban public transport services in the Redlands are now enabled for customers to use their credit card, debit card, smartphone, or smart watch to pay for their journey.
Redlands public transport users now have full access to Smart Ticketing on all Transdev buses and Southern Moreton Bay Island (SMBI) ferry services, enabling customers to use the new ways to pay.
Sealink’s SMBI ferries were activated on the same day, completing the roll out of Smart Ticketing on all SEQ public transport ferry services.
With Smart Ticketing already available on all SEQ trains, the activation of the technology on bus and ferry services in the Redlands means all urban public transport services in the region are now offering the new payment system for their customers.
The roll out allows customers using Smart Ticketing to travel seamlessly between local train, bus, and ferry services.
Customer trials on the SEQ bus network continue to be rolled out with the last three operators on track to be completed early this year. Once these are done, all SEQ public transport services will be Smart Ticketing enabled.
Bus trials follow the previous rollout of the additional payment methods across the SEQ train network, Gold Coast Light Rail, and Brisbane River ferries.
Customers are embracing the new ways to pay with more than 24 million trips taken using the technology since its introduction. More than 26 per cent of customers catching services with Smart Ticketing are now using the technology.
“After positive feedback from customers who have used Smart Ticketing on other public transport modes, SEQ bus users are now experiencing the same level of convenience the technology offers,” said Translink’s Deborah Hume.
“The expansion of the trial onto Transdev buses and SMBI ferry services means it has never been easier for customers in the Redlands to use public transport, with new payment methods and cheap public transport fares.
“The number of trips taken using the technology indicates customers are embracing the new payment methods and we’re confident this will continue across the Redlands.”
