FROM WYNNUM FRINGE
Did you visit Wynnum Fringe in 2023? What. A. Festival!
For three incredible weeks, from November 15 until December 3, big-name artists and local talent took over the beautiful bayside and solidified our reputation as a global arts destination.
Almost 30,000 people visited the Fringe Garden at George Clayton Park in Wynnum, and there were over 200 performances of the most incredible live music, theatre, circus, cabaret, comedy, family events and more.
There are too many amazing shows and events to mention, but some highlights included; incredible live music including Diesel, Rai Thistlethwayte, Sarah McLeod, Tania Doko, Robert Forster from The Go-Betweens and Chocolate Starfish performing Meatloaf’s full Bat Out of Hell album in their only Queensland date; epic laughs with a comedy lineup that included Jimeoin, Wil Anderson, Dave Thornton, Geraldine Hickey and the return of the Wynnum Fringe Comedy Gala.
This year saw the introduction of Mini Fringe, the mini-festival within Wynnum Fringe for families, including Bluey and Bingo, magic and circus shows, Ferris wheel rides, petting zoos, face painting, bubbles, Puppypalooza and so much more.
We celebrated all the colours of the rainbow with the inaugural Bay Pride on Sunday, November 26 – over 5,000 people came along to our family-friendly march from Wynnum Jetty to the Fringe Garden.
Australia’s most famous legs, Rhonda Burchmore, made her Wynnum debut with the premiere of the new Australian Spiegeltent show, Rhonda’s After Party, with some of the best circus performers in the world, including Mario Queen of The Circus, Helen Cassidy, Pricasso, ‘Bath Boy’ Stephen Williams and co.
We made the world record books with the largest gathering of people singing The Wynnum Takes it All, our Community Choir event presented in partnership with ABC Brisbane.
The legendary Daryl Braithwaite and the incomparable Marcia Hines headlined our closing day concert, Rock the Bay, a summer love cocktail of rock, pop, funk, soul, and disco.
