FROM THE OLD SCHOOLHOUSE GALLERY

You never know what you will find or what will happen…just around the corner! Christine Earthrowl and Caroline Ness of the Old SchoolHouse Gallery have teamed up with special guest Louise Saunders OAM to showcase their artworks depicting what they have discovered around the corners of their lives.

Caroline says there’s always something fascinating, beautiful or elusive to see if you are looking. You might discover a red-eyed figbird in a tree around the corner from the laundry, a wonderful landscape around a curve of the Cunningham Highway, or a beacon crowded with pied cormorants around the waters of Hope Banks on Moreton Bay. Sometimes, it will be fleeting, like sunsets, or an outlook that is usually taken for granted until it is just caught in the right light.

Christine feels you never know what you will find, see, or experience on your journey or when you travel around this beautiful country of ours. There is always the unexpected, a surprise, or something that stops you in your tracks and takes your breath away, like clouds over the waters, raindrops on petals, or an egret on a lagoon preening itself in the sun.

It is exciting for our gallery to have Louise and her beautiful botanical artworks of the treasures she finds in her journeys. Louise, a keen lover of nature, enjoys the challenge of working with a number of mediums, including watercolour, fine art colour pencils, acrylic and pastels and tackling a diverse range of subject matter. Botanical art is Louise’s passion, but both fauna and flora can be found in her paintings.

The exhibition Around Every Corner runs from June 6 to 30 with a special opening night on Saturday June 8 from 4:30pm where you can meet the artists. The gallery is open Thursdays to Sundays from 9:30am to 4:30pm.

When the world is determined to drive us around the bend, it can be reassuring to see what we will find around our next corner.
