The Redlands Business Excellence Awards has announced Redland Museum as the proud winner of the 2024 Champions of Tourism. In its 52 years, the museum has gathered an enviable collection of more than 20,000 artefacts and has compiled impressive archives of local history. The material gathered has been put to work educating and entertaining visitors and the local community through exhibitions, floor talks, school tours, cultural and multicultural events, interactive exhibits and theatre.
Past president Bruce Smith, himself a recent recipient of Life Membership of the museum, crafted the award-winning submission. Museum Operations Manager Belinda Hayes says that the museum’s submission was supported by its obtaining accreditation as an Accessible & Inclusive Host and Quality Tourism Business in 2024, as well as winning the Best of Qld Experience award for the third year running.
“We have been working on projects focused on enhancing visitor experience and positioning ourselves as a leader within the sustainable and accessible tourism sector,” she says.
Belinda says that volunteer input is one of the most valuable of the museum’s assets.
“We couldn’t do it without our incredible volunteers and members. We currently have a team of 100, and 27 active volunteers, with the longest serving volunteer having been assisting here for over 43 years! We’re passionate about this community.”
