FROM SURF LIFE SAVING QLD
Warmer weather is on the horizon, and the beach is calling your name! Here are some simple tips to ensure you have a great, safe day out.
1. Swim Between the Flags
2. Check the Beach Signs
3. Supervise Children
Children should always be accompanied and supervised by an adult at all time both in and out of the water. Parents should always be within arm’s reach of your child at all times. Bright, lycra-style swimming suits make good sun sense and are easy to see.
4. Stay Sun Safe
- Slip on protective clothing
- Slap on a broad-brimmed hat
- Slop on SPF30 or higher sunscreen
- Seek shade
- Slide on a pair of sunnies with an Eye Protection Factor of 20
5. Don’t Drink Alcohol and Swim
6. Check the Condition Reports

7. Be Stinger Aware
- Always swim at patrolled beaches, between the red and yellow flags
- Look for and obey safety signs
- Don’t enter the water when beaches are closed
- Ask a lifesaver or lifeguard for help and advice if you need it
- Don’t touch marine stingers washed up on the beach, they can still sting you
