With more than 1,000 enrolments each year in the Sailing Academy, the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron saw the need and found the ideal person to fill the role of Head Coach, appointing Adrian Finglas.
Better known as “Aidz”, Adrian will return to his hometown of Brisbane after spending a few years in Melbourne, where he worked in coaching roles and a time in the construction business.
As Head Coach at RQYS, Adrian will bring a greater emphasis and focus on the development of the youth sailors across all levels and fleets, as well as supporting the growth and skill of the already strong team of coaches and instructors.
“This is such a great step forward for our young sailors to be led by such a talented and highly respected sailor and coach, and we look forward to seeing great results in the future,” commented Vice Commodore John Warlow. “We are very excited to welcome ‘Aidz’ back to RQYS.”
Adrian has had a long and very successful sailing career, including several Olympic campaigns (1992, 2008 and 2012), Sydney to Hobart races, and national championships on Sabots, 420s, 470s, 505s and Tasers. Adrian was also the Paralympic Coach in London, where his sailors won gold and silver medals.
Adrian will start his role at RQYS in early November.
“I am so excited and can’t wait to get back to coaching and helping more young sailors do the best they can and achieve their own goals and sailing dreams!” said Adrian.
