When 38 planes carrying almost 7000 passengers were diverted to an airport in the town of
Gander, Newfoundland, amid the 2001 terror attacks, the town’s community rallied to accommodate them. Lifelong friendships and connections were formed, inspiring the creation of the musical Come From Away.
Now, iconic local theatre group Savoyards is bringing those passengers’ stories to life in their production of the Broadway hit at the Iona Performing Arts Centre. And if past performances are any indication, audiences can look forward to witnessing something special.
Events like these bring people together to celebrate creativity and build community. From rehearsals and backstage laughs to the adrenaline of opening night, the experience creates friendships that last well beyond the final curtain. Savoyards has been making that magic happen for over 60 years, and thanks to groups like this, our local arts scene is thriving.
Thank you, Savoyards, for letting local talent shine and for bringing an exceptional standard of musical theatre to the bayside!
