FROM THE ROTARY CLUB OF WYNNUM AND MANLY

Sunday, June 8, will see the annual Family Fun Day take place at George Clayton Park, Wynnum.

The Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly has been running the Family Fun Day for many years, and this year, Ampol is again partnering with the club to ensure its success. We are incredibly grateful for Ampol’s ongoing support of our club, and especially this event.

The event’s purpose is to provide a family-friendly, fun-filled day while heightening awareness in the community of domestic and family violence.

As with previous years, everything at the park will be free (except for the coffee van and soft drinks stall). We will have free sausage sizzles, fresh fruit and freshly-popped popcorn, and we will have loads of free things to entertain the kids, including traditional games like sack races, egg and spoon races, three-legged races, along with a jumping castle, petting zoo and face painting.

The musical entertainment will be outstanding. Local school bands and groups will provide the music until lunchtime, when our local feature artist, the brilliant twice number-one Triple J Unearthed guitarist and vocalist Lecia Louise, will perform.

Singer-songwriter Lecia Louise is an exceptionally talented, internationally acclaimed performer who plays multiple instruments. Her musical diversity embraces many genres, including rock, blues, soul, Americana and country. Lecia’s tours have taken her worldwide, and she is a crowd favourite, playing at many major festivals around Australia. Her singles Individual and My Everything reached number one on the Triple J Unearthed online charts.

Local agencies and other organisations such as Police, Fire, Ambulance, Rosies, Red Cross, Manly Kindy, Zonta, Sailability and Bunnings will have stalls around the park perimeter. In addition, a range of service agencies able to provide domestic and family violence support and assistance will be present to reinforce the basic theme of the day, which is closely linked to DV Prevention Month in May.

Rotary has adopted a purple shirt to highlight its concern for DV, and we would love to see the community wearing the specially designed shirt every Friday to demonstrate our commitment to eradicating domestic violence. We will be taking orders for shirts on the day, but we can get shirts for people before the event if we receive the order by May 16 – please contact Les Louis ([email protected]) before then, and he will order a shirt for you.

The Ampol Rotary Family Fun Day will take place at George Clayton Park, Wynnum, from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Sunday June 8.
