Savoyards Musical Comedy Society invites audiences on an unforgettable journey with Come From Away – the critically acclaimed Broadway hit that proves kindness can change the world. Running from 21 June to 5 July 2025 at the Iona Performing Arts Centre, this powerful production brings to life the remarkable true story of a small town that opened its arms to the world.
Set in Gander, Newfoundland, Come From Away recounts the events of September 11, 2001, when 38 planes were unexpectedly grounded, stranding nearly 7,000 passengers. In the face of uncertainty, the people of Gander offered shelter, food, and comfort, turning fear into friendship and strangers into family.
Come From Away celebrates human decency and community spirit by blending foot-stomping folk-inspired music with heartfelt storytelling. With its stirring score, infectious energy, and uplifting message, the musical has earned standing ovations across the globe – and now, thanks to Savoyards, it’s landing in Brisbane’s bayside.
“We’re thrilled to bring this uplifting story to South East Queensland,” says Savoyards president David Harrison. “It’s a testament to the power of community and the extraordinary good that can arise from even the darkest moments.”
As one of Queensland’s longest-running community theatre groups, Savoyards has been staging high-quality musical theatre since 1961. With a legacy built on local talent and a passion for storytelling, Savoyards has brought beloved productions such as Les Misérables and Chicago to life, and Come From Away promises to be no exception.
Don’t miss your chance to experience this heart-warming tale of resilience and compassion. Tickets are expected to sell fast for what promises to be one of the year’s theatrical highlights.
