The Bayside Community Fund (BCF) recently held a function at Cedar & Pine at Wynnum to thank sponsors, announce upcoming events, and present this year’s grant from Queensland Gives to the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre.
The BCF has raised over $50,000 in less than three years. The capital is invested with the Queensland Investment Corporation (QIC) and is preserved, with the interest earned paid out in grants to bayside community groups each year. In the first year, the BCF gave $314 to BABI; last year, Hemmant Equine Therapy and the Wynnum and Manly Districts Men’s Shed shared $914, and this year, $1267 goes to the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre. The fund is growing each year.
The BCF raises funds by running events and projects that are of value to the local community and through personal donations. Events include Pups in the Park and the Bayside Community Awards, and a partnership with the Bendigo Bank Wynnum Manly and Victoria Point to run a Community Raffle with $30,000 in prizes to be drawn on June 12 at the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club. The BCF will also announce the community group that will be awarded a $5,000 grant at this event. Find out more about the BCF at baysidecommunityfund.org.au.
