The Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly Family Fun Day on Sunday September 18 was a terrific success, with an estimated crowd of over 2500 joining in the fun and festivities at George Clayton Park. This year’s Fun Day ran from 10am to 2pm providing entertainment, music and a free sausage sizzle for all the family to enjoy.
Despite the event being postponed for several months due to wet weather, the sun did shine brightly on the day. Joint Rotary president Rod Fletcher revealed crowd numbers have continued to grow as it has now become a signature community event.
“The support we received from the community was overwhelming, and plans are already in place for another Family Fun Day next year,” said Rod.
The day was made possible through great partnerships and support from Woolworths, Perrys Fruit and Veg, the Community Gambling and Benefits Fund grant, and Brisbane City Council’s Lord Mayors Fund grant. Thanks also to MC Steve Rickerts and Lyn Husband for organising the musical program for the day.
Stall holders included DV Safe Phones, Rosies, Probus, Manly Kindy, Zonta, Sailabilty, Red Cross, Trauma Teddies, Quota, and Oz Fish, together with Qld Police (including the Mounted Police making several appearances and participating in the tug of war), the popular Fire and Rescue truck and entertainment for the children that included games, face painting, magician, balloon twister, jumping castle, and popcorn makers.
Feedback from the day reflects its success, with many individuals expressing the very same message: “Can I just say a big thank you to Rotary for the opportunity to attend the fun day? It was a great event that my family all loved”.
