Resident of the month: Bill Rollo
MEMBER OF VOLUNTEER MARINE RESCUE VICTORIA POINT
Bill was born in Dublin, Ireland, into a family with a background of boating and fishing. He relocated first to England, then Sydney, then 12 years ago retired with his wife Mary to the bayside in Victoria Point-in Bill’s words “best place in Australia!”
I was lucky enough to meet Bill and his family when they first came here and was able to secure a beautiful home for them where they still live today.
With his boating background, Bill liked the idea of volunteering and he joined the Victoria Point V.M.R over 11 years ago. “It is a great outfit to belong to and very rewarding when you rescue a family with small children who were stuck in the bay exposed to the weather,” says Bill.
Bill joined when he was 69 years old, and has enjoyed over 11 years of great friendship with all the crews. There are four crews, one for each weekend of the month.
V.M.R is always on the lookout for new recruits – age is not a barrier; Bill is 81 years young now – so don’t be shy in asking about joining, you will be more than welcome.
