The uplifting sound of bagpipes carries a proud tradition, one that the Wynnum RSL Pipe Band continues to share through music, friendship, and community spirit. Based in Wynnum, the band is a welcoming, supportive group of pipers and drummers of all ages and skill levels, united by a shared love of Highland music and community.
Whether competing across Australia or performing locally, the Wynnum RSL Pipe Band is a familiar and welcome presence at community events, including the Wynnum Manly Australia Day Breakfast, the Wynnum ANZAC Day Community March, and the Wynnum Halloween Parade, each performance combining musical excellence with a genuine sense of togetherness that audiences can feel.
That same warmth extends to the band’s teaching program, where experienced pipers and drummers offer lessons in a safe, encouraging environment. From complete beginners to developing musicians, members are supported in learning at their own pace, building confidence, and enjoying making music as part of a team.
This March, the band invites the wider community to experience pipe band culture up close through exciting competitions that celebrate Highland tradition. The Wynnum Highland Gathering, to be held on March 8 at the Wynnum Manly Junior Rugby League Club, will bring together bands and musicians for a vibrant celebration of Highland culture, featuring traditional dress, formal performances, and time-honoured musical standards. These competitions showcase not only musical skill but also the sense of community and cultural pride that define pipe band tradition, offering musicians a chance to connect and audiences a fun, affordable day out.
