You’ve probably heard of the ‘slow food’ movement, where we’re encouraged to eat food grown and prepared locally. But have you considered slow fashion? In today’s fast and furious world of throw-away threads, perhaps it’s time to slow down and think: can we do better for the planet and our wellbeing?

Minjerribah resident and founder of Textile Beat, Jane Milburn OAM, is on a mission to change how we dress for the better.

Jane’s philosophy encourages us to make ethical, creative and sustainable fashion choices by supporting local makers, recycling and upcycling, and embracing natural fibres over synthetics. Her take on fashion is fun, and she has inspired people, one at a time, to explore their creativity through her teachings.

Jane is one of the fantastic people in our community making a difference through her passion for change. Find out more about Jane on page 7.

We hope you love getting to know all the locals featured in this edition of The Community Leader, and next time you’re making a purchase, please support your local makers and retailers!
