The EcoMarines Foundation, an innovative environmental education program implemented in over 200 Queensland schools, has partnered with the Freedom Boat Club (Brisbane) to tackle waterway pollution in Moreton Bay.
As part of this initiative, local EcoMarines student ambassadors boarded one of Freedom Boat Club’s Bayliner Trophy centre console boats to clean up floating waste along the waterways from Manly Boat Harbour to the Lota housing canals.
Brett Bolton, owner of Freedom Boat Club (Brisbane), expressed pride in the collaboration, saying, “We are honoured to be among the first EcoMarines Corporate Crew, bringing the lessons of their school education program into the business world. Our members cherish the pristine beauty of Moreton Bay’s waterways, enhanced by frequent sightings of marine life such as turtles, dolphins, dugongs, and whales. To preserve this world-class ecosystem for future generations, we emphasise environmental stewardship as a core part of our member induction training.”
Angela Massy, CEO of EcoMarines Foundation, highlighted the importance of the partnership, stating, “Our collaboration with Freedom Boat Club aligns with our long-term vision to care for and preserve the environment. Clean waterways are essential not just for aesthetics but for the health of our ecosystem and the survival of all living beings. Partnerships like this offer students meaningful, hands-on experiences that show them the tangible impact of their actions.”
Through activities such as this clean-up, students gain a real-world understanding of environmental conservation, fostering a lifelong commitment to protecting our planet. Together, EcoMarines and Freedom Boat Club are making a lasting difference in preserving Moreton Bay’s natural beauty and biodiversity.
