Branches Lifestyle Support Community Hub has enjoyed a productive first few months since it opened early March.
Classes and activities are running weekdays, and community groups are beginning to access the space when it’s not being used for the day service for people with a disability.
“We’ve had many well-wishers pop by, even volunteers coming in to help with ongoing renovations. We enjoy having passers-by say a quick hello to the clients while we’re out in the gardens,” said hub manager, Micah Fraser.
Micah says Branches’ cooking program is already proving to be very popular. Attendees focus on different themes each lesson – so far, they have cooked Mexican, Italian, and Japanese dishes.
Branches manager and cooking instructor Holly Smith said, “Our clients really like the sensory aspects of the class like rolling dough between their hands, the smells, and obviously the tastes. They get so engrossed in the process and then they all enjoy each other’s company when it’s time eat the finished product”.
Branches would like to remind the Wynnum community that the hub is available to other community groups evenings and weekends. Please visit them at 29 Fox St for more information, or phone 3893 4528.
