CONTRIBUTED BY THE REDLAND BAY MEN’S SHED
Volunteers from the Redland Bay Men’s Shed recently completed a task for the Redland Bay Volunteer Coast Guard. Due to some major restructuring of the marina carpark and the realignment of the roadway adjacent to the Coast Guard Building, the security fences had to be taken down and repositioned.
The Coast Guard’s hose reels on their building alongside their boat ramps needed security gates, and being a relatively small job, Men’s Shed volunteers stepped in to do the work, allowing contractors and tradespeople to concentrate on the bigger projects.
Men’s Shed members are happy to assist the community with various jobs such repairing small furniture items, and have even constructed stands for specific workshop machines on occasion.
Membership of the Men’s Shed is open to men of any age, but members are mainly retirees who have a bit of spare time on their hands, and so our range of activities is geared to suit. Men’s health is our main aim, both mental and physical, so the company of other men in similar circumstances creates an atmosphere of co-operation and mateship, whether we are sanding down a table top or having a game of cards.
The shed is open from Monday to Thursday from around 8:00am to lunchtime, located at 8 Donald Road Redland Bay, which is on School of Arts Road beside the skate park, the dog off-leash area and the soccer field. Don’t feel shy, just drop in and say “g’day”.
