Balmy summer evenings, gentle breezes from the bay – what better time for a picnic!
Wynnum 60 and Better president Tina Cotis is hosting monthly Friday night picnics at Lota Park to give members a relaxing wind-down to the weekend.
It’s a very casual affair, just turn up with a bite to eat (or local takeaway), and something to drink. Music, games and company are supplied.
“Friday night can be a lonely time for some of our seniors,” she said. “Rather than feeling at a loose end, this is a chance to mix and mingle over conversation and activities as the sun goes down. Time to play quoits, bocce, meet friends old and new, break into dance if the mood and music grab you…whatever you feel like doing.
“Besides, this just could be the opportunity to make 2026 the year to expand your social circle.”
Weather permitting, the monthly picnics take place in the park shelter closest to the gym station in Lota Park from 5pm to whenever. This spot is easy to find, clearly visible from the road along the esplanade – just look for the welcoming banner.
The next picnic dates to get into the new year vibe are on Friday, 16 January and 20 February 2026.
