Most great inventions are born out of necessity, and social groups are no exception. What starts as a “wouldn’t it be nice to have…” conversation between two friends can become a movement that changes lives.

In Redland Bay, a casual chat between two friends – Shelly Rogers and Amanda McLune – led to the creation of the area’s first Women’s Shed. When word got out about the new initiative, local ladies jumped at the chance to build something special from the ground up. Read their story on page 3.

In this edition, we’re also chatting to Julie O’Shea, from Who Gives a Cluck. Julie is an absolute legend who’s working hard to re-home battery hens in their forever homes. Read about her on page 2, and find out how you can get involved in the upcoming hen adoption day at Capalaba.

The Redland Bay Women’s Shed and Who Gives a Cluck are great examples of volunteer-led groups
driven by people who collectively work to make our community better. And we know that strong communities are healthy communities. Three cheers to everyone who volunteers their time and efforts to create lasting legacies!

If you have a good news story to share, get in touch – we’d love to hear from you!
