FROM JULIE DIXON, MARKET COORDINATOR

If you would love to give your children a great experience but find the Ekka too expensive, bring them on down to the Shire Clerk’s Cottage Mini Fun Fair and Market on Saturday August 17.

The fun kicks off at 8:00am with free gift bags for the first 100 children. These go pretty quickly, but if you miss out, there is still the animal petting zoo, pony rides, face painting, fairy floss, popcorn and ‘sno’ cones.

While this is great for the kids, there’s plenty for mum and dad as well. Over 70 market stalls will be selling beautiful hand-crafted items, our barbecue will be running hot with bacon and egg sandwiches and a sausage sizzle, and the canteen in the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre will offer a range of hot and cold food and drinks. A coffee van will be on site, and don’t forget to come inside the Waterloo Bay Leisure Centre as half the stalls are under cover.

While you are here, make sure you have a look through the historic Shire Clerk’s Cottage. The beautifully restored cottage is filled with furniture and artefacts from the late 1800s and early 1900s. And of course, you must try the Devonshire Teas served on the cottage verandah. The scones are baked on site during the market so you won’t get fresher unless you make them yourself!
