Wynnum-based BABI has been running its Get Set for Work program for ten years and has achieved great outcomes for participants. The program runs for nine weeks, four times each year throughout the school term. It works with young people aged 15 to 19 who have disengaged from school or have completed school and are unsure of their pathway forward.

Participants not only complete a Certificate II in Skills for Work and Vocational Pathways, but also receive one-on-one support from a youth worker to achieve the goals they set for themselves. This can include obtaining identification, getting a learner’s licence, connecting with Centrelink, applying for a tax file number, linking in with other support agencies, or working towards any other personal goals.

At the end of the program, participants celebrate their achievements with a graduation ceremony attended by family and friends. The support doesn’t end there – once someone has participated in the program, they continue to have access to ongoing support from youth workers at BABI.
