FROM VICTORIA POINT SHARKS SPORTING CLUB
From 7pm on Thursday 12 February to 7pm on Sunday 15 February, staff from the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club will be pushing themselves once again in their Laps for Leukaemia Charity Walk, dedicated to raising awareness and vital funds for blood cancer research and support. This year, staff will walk non-stop for 72 hours around the Sharks’ sports oval – up from 48 hours last year – because the cause demands more.
This year’s event is the first of three major fundraising initiatives by the Victoria Point Sharks Sporting Club (including their Charity Golf Day in June and the Leukaemia Foundation Charity Luncheon in October), with a bold target of $100,000. It’s a goal inspired by remarkable growth over the past two years. What began as a $26,000 effort in 2024 rose to an incredible $80,000 in 2025.
At its heart, Laps for Leukaemia is about more than fundraising. It aligns with the Leukaemia Foundation’s ambitious goal to see zero deaths from blood cancer by 2035. Every lap walked represents hope for patients, strength for families, and progress toward improved treatments and outcomes. As staff members walk through the day and night for 72 continuous hours, they do so in honour of those currently battling blood cancer, in memory of those lost, and in support of future generations. Funds raised will help provide critical research, patient support services, and education programs.
Laps for Leukaemia is a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when a community unites with purpose.
