Michael Muir, President of the Manly-Lota RSL, has proudly devoted a decade of service to the community.
Mr Muir has nearly completed a full three-year term as President, having already served terms as both Senior and Junior Vice-President.
During his time with the Manly-Lota RSL, he has seen its membership rise to over 220, and its record of advocacy and wellbeing work for ex-Service people, their families and others in the community, recognised as one of Queensland’s best.
Mr Muir will officially stand down as President at the Manly-Lota RSL’s Annual General Meeting on 15th February 2025, though he plans to continue serving with the Management Committee.
His replacement as President will be announced at that AGM. He said he hopes many other service-minded people in the community will step forward and offer to help the RSL’s management team before then. “We do an outstanding job on behalf of veterans and the community here,” Mr Muir said. “We’re only a humble RSL branch, with no pokies and no kitchen service, but we have a grand reputation for community activities such as wellbeing and advocacy work and commemorative services.”
Mr Muir invited all interested people to join him at the Manly-Lota RSL hall on Friday evenings (5:00pm to 7:00pm) for their weekly ‘Meet and Greet’ sessions and on Wednesdays (9:30am to 11:00am) for Veteran’s Morning Tea. “We have a small bar here, and we always welcome new faces,” he said.
Meanwhile, having just managed his last major commemorative event at the Manly-Lota RSL – the annual Remembrance Day celebration on 11th November – Mr Muir said he’s now looking forward to welcoming members and supporters at the club’s Christmas party on 14th December.
