Happy New Year! Have you made a resolution for the year that’s about to unfold? And will you stick to it? Only time will tell! Good luck.

The tradition began around 4,000 years ago with the ancient Babylonians, and to this day, many of us continue to make new year’s resolutions, with the best of intentions. But honestly, some goals are way too unrealistic and difficult to endure. In fact, many resolutions fade away in the first few weeks. I know, I’ve been there.

My approach is simple: pick resolutions that are achievable and make a real difference.

If you’re yet to decide, why not choose an eco-friendly resolution? It could be as simple as purchasing a beautiful re-usable cup for your morning takeaway coffee; buying sustainable gifts, fashion, and food; re-using and recycling; transforming your garden to create a sanctuary for wildlife; or joining your local community bushcare group. Redlands IndigiScapes Centre at Capalaba can guide you to success with all these goals and more.

I reckon an excellent resolution is to spend more time in nature. It’s so easy, yet too often indoor activities (yes, I’m talking screentime) prevail over outside adventures. You’ll often find me at IndigiScapes, and while there’s an office component to my job, I take every opportunity to step outside into the natural bush surrounds to share my love of the environment with visitors.

Each month I host “Joey Club”, a fun-filled nature activity for young children. It’s about igniting that spark of wonder through connection with the environment. It’s learning about what makes our wildlife unique through stories, play, and discovery.

My greatest satisfaction comes from the happy engaged faces that look back at me as I hop like a frog or attempt to bellow like a koala – book through Eventbrite to join in the fun!

In 2025, while I’ll attempt the popular resolutions of exercising more, learning something new, and eating healthier, my go-to is to spend more time in nature. Because that’s achievable, meaningful, and enjoyable!

Until next time … Stay Wild!
