Soroptimist International Bayside invites you to Soropti-Swap – Recycle, Reuse, Upcycle, on Saturday, October 11, at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17 Runnymede Rd, Capalaba.
Australians hold the unfortunate record of purchasing more clothing per capita than anywhere in the world. This results in large volumes of textile waste being sent to landfills. Soropti-Swap serves to raise awareness of this problem and to encourage more people to reduce, recycle, or upcycle garments and textiles.
Come along to hear how one woman has established a business to address this issue. Kim Bailey, from East of Grey, will share her story and then lead a workshop on how to mend, reuse, or upcycle garments to breathe new life into much-loved clothes.
Bring along the following items:
- Garments needing repair or upcycling
- Old sheets and towels for recycling
- Up to 10 items to swap for ‘new-to-you’ outfits
- Clothing, shoes, bags, jewellery, fabric, buttons, lace, etc.
Entry is by a gold coin donation, which will be forwarded to a local charity. There will also be market stalls selling their recycled products, as well as ideas on how to reuse or upcycle textiles in craft projects.
SI Bayside looks forward to seeing you at IndigiScapes on Saturday, October 11, from 10:30am to 2:00pm.
