This month, Zonta Clubs across the world will be raising awareness of the plight of women affected by Gender Based Violence. The annual United Nations 16 Days of Activism begins on November 25, with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and continues through to December 10, with the United Nations Day for Human Rights. During these 16 days, Zonta Clubs worldwide raise awareness of the impact of domestic and family violence against women and girls.
Brisbane is no exception to these activities, with the Zonta Clubs of District 22 Ltd coming together to raise awareness locally. Activities across the city include the lighting of the Brisbane CBD in orange, banners in prominent positions, the strategic placement of orange wooden silhouettes carrying information on domestic and family violence, as well as breakfasts and lunches featuring guest speakers and seminars addressing the topic.
On November 27, under the orange lights illuminating the city, over 60 Zonta Members will walk a city circuit in their traditional orange Zonta Says NO shirts, alongside family members, survivors, and furry friends. We encourage the Brisbane Community to join us on the night, so please check out the Zonta District 22 website zontadistrict22.org for more details.
Of special interest to Bayside residents will be the Paint the Bayside Orange Breakfast at the Wynnum Manly Leagues Club on November 26 from 6:45am to 8:30am. The breakfast is now in its 10th year and raises funds to train facilitators to conduct the NAPCAN LoveBites – Respectful Relationships in High Schools.
The guest speaker for the event is Darryl Gardiner, Founder of Rolling With the Punches, who will speak on domestic and family violence from the male perspective.
