FROM THE PANDANUS OUTRIGGER CANOE CLUB, MANLY

Pandanus Outrigger Canoe Club has recently invested in the ongoing safety of its members with the generous assistance of Greenleaves, the local Stockland Group Retirement Living community. This contribution is part of the larger Stockland CARE program, which has awarded $279,000 to organisations across the country to support local community-building initiatives.

Pandanus Outrigger Canoe Club is based within the Manly Harbour precinct. Pandanus provides a lifestyle activity to members who wish to maintain good fitness levels as they strive to remain active with like-minded individuals.

Pandanus provides a range of paddling training times and, to suit some members, we can provide low-light training sessions, usually before and while the sun is coming up – a truly beautiful time of the day to be paddling. To conduct these training sessions safely, we provide safety light beacons that clearly indicate our location to other marine craft.

Pandanus has invested in the lighting systems and a Personal Location Beacon (PLB) to facilitate both the regulatory requirements for low-light marine activities and the fundamental safety of club members.

The generosity of the Stockland CARE Grant funds ensures that Pandanus Outrigger Canoe Club members can continue to pursue their fitness and lifestyle goals within a safe environment.

In addition to the lighting systems and PLB, Pandanus has been able to invest in a specialised injury prevention workshop which will equip members with the knowledge and exercise regime to reduce the risk of injury while paddling and handing the canoes on the ramp at launch and retrieval.

Pandanus takes its responsibility for safe paddling seriously and extends its congratulations and heart-felt thanks to the Stockland Group for its generous support of our safety initiatives.
