Since moving to Brisbane from Auckland, New Zealand, amidst the COVID pandemic, I have found immense joy in exploring the stunning landscapes of Brisbane, Redlands, and the surrounding areas.

It’s a remarkable experience to be surrounded by such natural beauty every day, and my camera has been working overtime to capture these special moments, which I eagerly share with my family in South Africa.

In 2022, Pia Jessen and Meg Forbes of the Redlands Camera Club organised a remarkable photography tour to K’gari (formerly known as Fraser Island) with K’gari Adventures. As a ‘new’ Queenslander, I had no idea what to expect, but the moment we reached Inskip Point, I knew I was embarking on the trip of a lifetime.

The five days we spent on K’gari were brimming with activity and breathtaking sights. I was constantly amazed at the diverse range of beauty the island had to offer. One day, I found myself capturing a shipwreck while Dingos strolled by, and the next day, I was enchanted by the crystal-clear waters of Lake McKenzie, displaying the bluest shades imaginable. Traveling between these wonders required traversing the lush rainforests in 4x4s, providing opportunities to pause and learn about the island’s history from the traditional owners, the Butchulla people.

It was an unforgettable week in paradise, providing a much-needed respite from the hectic world. The experience truly compelled me to appreciate each and every moment. As I concluded the trip, I departed with a sense of tranquillity, memory cards filled to capacity, and a heart brimming with contentment. I eagerly anticipate returning to K’gari soon and sharing its wonders with my family.
