FROM WYNNUM AND MANLY ROTARY CLUB

Rotary Clubs around the world install a new president and board each year on July 1. This ‘changeover’ celebrates the year that has passed, and optimism for the year ahead. The Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly recently conducted its changeover at the Wynnum Golf Club, where members celebrated the successes of the past year and their expectations for the next year in style and with great enthusiasm.

Awards were presented to three members who made significant contributions to the community and the club’s work throughout the year, as well as in their personal lives. District Governor Sue Mulraney, along with president Mick Matthews, presented Paul Harris Awards to Gordon Walters, Geoff Catto, and
Kai Eberspaecher.

Outgoing president Mick Matthews highlighted the achievements of the club in the past year, which included one of the most successful Family Fun Days yet, along with the club’s involvement with many local organisations, supporting excellent programs for youth, several significant contributions to the welfare of needy people in Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, The Philippines and Vietnam, and an ongoing campaign against domestic and family violence. He was very pleased to note that the club grew to 53 members during the year.

Mick handed over the reins to incoming president Jo Soothill, who outlined her plans for the next 12 months to ensure the club achieves the aims of the new theme “Unite for Good”. She then introduced the new board to the members.
