February in the Redlands is all about fresh starts, and the year is still young, making it the perfect time to focus on your wellbeing to tackle the months ahead. If you’ve been feeling like you’re not quite living your best life, the Small Steps for Big Changes initiative might be just what you need. This program, delivered by the YMCA in partnership with The University of Queensland, supports people in reducing their risk of developing type 2 diabetes – and Redlands locals are in luck, with Victoria Point YMCA named as one of four participating centres. You can learn more about how to get involved here.

Out and about in the Redlands, February is typically a busy month. Our batteries have recharged after Christmas, school is back in full swing, and our community calendar is filling with events. From art exhibitions to live gigs and theatre, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Take a look at our events listing on page 6.

February also brings Valentine’s Day, a celebration with a surprisingly rich backstory – turn to page 7 to uncover its origins. And if you’re not marking the day with a partner, why not share a little kindness instead? A simple card to a neighbour or friend can be a lovely way to brighten someone’s day.

A huge thanks goes to everyone who contributed to this issue – we love sharing your stories!
