In the spirit of Christmas, Wellington Point traders and community groups will be pulling out the stops and putting up the stalls in preparation for this year’s Wellington Point Village Christmas Festival on the Village Green.
Early risers (6:00am) on December 5 can watch Council and traders going to dizzy heights when they decorate the main pine tree in the village – complete with an intrepid Christmas fairy at the very top. That evening, preparations come down to earth when children will try their talents at decorating corflute trees throughout the green – and the stage is set for the festivities.
There will be a real party atmosphere in the village, with walk-through light installations and ongoing entertainment that includes local choirs, a Street Christmas Dance by Amos Latin Dance School, a vintage car display, and a cornucopia of craft items and food (including Night Ninjas’ renowned pancakes) on sale at the market stalls that will line the village’s main road. One of those traders is Flair Floral Stylist’s Glenys Mercer, and she’s enthusiastically started preparing for the event.
“The village has a truly wonderful vibe and we traders really enjoy the opportunity to give back to the community – and have a great time doing it!” Glenys says.
Redland Museum, Birkdale Men’s Shed and Redlands Cancer Council will be there; there’ll be games
with local Rotary clubs and even a pickleball demonstration. A highlight of the evening will be the TS Norfolk Naval Cadets’ Guard of Honour for Santa’s visit at 6:00pm.
Cr Wendy Boglary says that the evening will be a true celebration of local community.
“Wellington Point promotes such a strong sense of community and giveback to all, while building the economy for local family businesses. This festival will be everyone’s chance to enjoy a warm and fuzzy Redlands!”
