The Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly has been serving this community continuously for more than 70 years since its inauguration in October 1953. Last year, nine new members joined the club, bringing the total to 53.

They joined for many reasons. It may be because the club:

  • Undertakes projects that make our local community a better place, such as the monument to the Quandamooka people near the Wynnum wading pool; Eastwood Beach near the Manly swimming pool, and the reconstruction of Balgue’s Slip (Pelican’s Roost) on the Wynnum foreshore.
  • Contributes to education and health locally and in such places as India, Tanzania, Cambodia, Timor Leste, Vanuatu, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands.
  • Provided solar lights for villagers in Timor Leste.Improved sanitation and health through clean water projects in the Pacific Islands.
  • Has great camaraderie among members and arranges social gatherings to enjoy each other’s company.
  • Has interesting and informative guest speakers each week at its meetings.

It may be any or all of these things – every person has their own reason for getting involved. What is common is that after joining, they enjoy the experience, the company and the satisfaction of helping their fellow citizens, to the extent that several members of the club have been involved with Rotary for more than 40 years.

Members have also made friends from around the world through Rotary. Member Tracey Wyatt recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the Rotary International Travel and Hosting Fellowship for her outstanding work helping visiting Rotarians in
our area.

The Rotary Club of Wynnum and Manly would love members of the community to join them in helping others and to Have Fun While Getting Things Done! For more information, visit rcwm.org.
