BABI Youth and Family Service is happy to announce that BayWave Youth Festival is on again this year. A full-day celebration of young people will be held on Tuesday, April 8, from 11:00am to 4:00pm at the Lota Skate Park. The festival is open to all ages and promises a day of live music, stalls, workshops, food and drinks. BayWave is a free event where everyone’s welcome, conveniently located next to Lota train station.

BayWave has been running for over 18 years in the Wynnum-Manly area and has been an event that young people and families look forward to each year. The festival is held during Youth Week and is proudly sponsored by Brisbane City Council. There is a lot of community support from local businesses in the area, as they understand just how valuable this event is.

BayWave is a chance to celebrate young people’s talents, skills and achievements in our community. There are performers of all sorts, including bands, solo artists and dancers. It’s a highly interactive festival where young people can participate in basketball and skate workshops.

The festival is youth-led from the planning stage to delivery on the day. Young people from BABI’s Youth Voice Committee assist with planning, running the food stalls, and developing their public speaking skills by MCing the stage. Stage management on the day will be run by Braxton and the crew from DeadTrigger Records, a record label by the youth, for the youth.

If you want to be part of the festival in any way, including having a community stall, as a performer on stage, or as a volunteer, email youthworker@babi.org.au to express your interest.

The festival falls in the first week of school holidays, so mark your calendars for a fun day celebrating young people, free food and activities, live music and sporting workshops!
